‘Leaves Keep Falling’ selected for Artivist Film Festival

artivist_logo“The Leaves Keep Falling,” a film by Julie Winokur and Vietnam Reporting Project fellow Ed Kashi, has been selected for this year’s Artivist Film Festival and has received an award in the category of “Environmental Preservation.”

Videographer/photographer Ed Kashi and photographer Catherine Karnow traveled to Vietnam as Vietnam Reporting Project fellows in the summer of 2010 to shoot the video and still photographs seen in “The Leaves Keep Falling.”

Artivist Collective, Inc., the nonprofit organization that produces the annual Artivist Film Festival, gives film awards in five categories: Human Rights, Children’s Advocacy, Environmental Preservation, Animal Advocacy and Artivist Spirit. An award was given to a feature film and a short film in each category for a total of 10 awards.

All ten films were showcased in a series of preview screenings in six U.S. cities, July 8-10: Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Seattle, Sedona (AZ.) and Washington D.C. The films will debut at the Artivist Film Festival in Los Angeles, to be held Aug. 18-20 at the Egyptian Theater.

“We very excited about this year’s roster of award-winning film. They’re among the very best we have had the privilege of screening over the past eight years,” says Diaky Diaz, co-founder and president of Artivist Film Festival and Awards.

The name Artivist is a combination of “artist” and “activist.”

The Vietnam Reporting Project — coordinated by the Renaissance Journalism Center and funded by the Ford Foundation — paid for the fellows’ travel to Vietnam, along with hotel rooms and food, and provided training and logistics support.
