Journalism Student
San Francisco State University
Tara Haghighi was raised in San Jose before moving to Palo Alto for high school. When she first came to San Francisco State University, she wanted to be a nurse. But after taking a course in journalism, she realized that she wanted to be a writer. In the summer of 2008, Tara received an internship with Life & Style Weekly, an entertainment magazine, where she had her first hands-on experience in the entertainment world. In the spring of 2009, she became a staff writer for San Francisco State’s award-winning campus newspaper, the Golden Gate [X]press, reporting on budget cuts, breaking news, and arts and entertainment.
In the fall of 2009, Tara became the paper’s breaking news editor. As an editor, she made sure to give all the reporters the chance to cover the range of breaking news stories—from local campus and city news to international stories. In 2010 Tara was awarded an internship as a sales and marketing intern for University of Dreams, a program that gives college students internships in a wide range of industries in cities all over the world. In this internship, Tara gained a great deal of knowledge about marketing and public relations. While at SFSU, she also served as a teaching assistant for Professor Yumi Wilson and as a contributing editor for her blog, SF News Hub. Tara graduated from San Francisco State University in June 2010. She plans to gain more work experience in public relations before attending graduate school.
